Polynesian navigator's
this is a amazing journey to discover! imagine being one of them! I found it so much fun to find out how smart some countries can be for making do with what they had, personally i found it tricky to understand how they did it because of the New Zealand way of doing it. Do you sail why/why not?
if I went on a journey out to sea and could only take 10 food items i would take 1 carton of eggs [for breakfast] and a big watermelon because it would last a week [for morning tea] a big popcorn packet for snacking on and a big 45 litre bottle of water, and for dinner i would take beef jerky, i would also take rice and honey and toast bread, chocolate ha ha [of course ] as well as carrots because it would help me see in the dark and thats important for navigating.

Kia ora Emily, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
ReplyDeleteWell done for participating in the Summer Learning Journey and creating this blog post about 10 food items you would take with you if you were going on a sea voyage with no refrigerator or freezer!
Popcorn, beef jerky, rice and honey are all excellent choices as they are non-perishable items and will therefore last a long time.
It is awesome to see some fruits and vegetables on you list! You definitely wouldn’t want to get scurvy while you were away at sea, so the vitamins and minerals in these would help avoid this!
Out of all of the different foods on your list, which one is your favourite?
What kind of meals would you make out of these ingredients?
If I were going on this sea voyage, I would pack peanut butter. This is because I eat peanut butter every morning, and don’t think I could go a day without it! Plus, peanut butter is full of good, healthy fats and lasts a while before expiring.
You have managed to include so much information about the Polynesian navigators in this blog post, and I am amazed to find out how they didn’t even use maps or compasses to navigate! I reckon it would be so cool to be able to use the moon and the stars to figure out where to go, although it does make me wonder how they would find their way on a cloudy night!
Keep up the excellent work!
